FAQs
WHAT SIZE KIT SHOULD I ORDER?
Our ready-made kits come in two sizes - small or large. Small kits will last 1 adult for 1 week, if used solely on its own. Large kits will last 2 adults for 1 week - again if used solely on it's own.
WILL I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT?
Each Shelter In Place kit provides 1,800 calories per day, which is more than enough to sustain an average adult.
HOW MANY KITS SHOULD I ORDER?
Shelter In Place kits are modular - If you're ordering for a family of 4, we'd recommend purchasing 2 x Large kits. If you need to stretch it further, you can build your own kit OR add what you’ve got on hand - like food from the freezer, if the power’s out!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LONG-LIFE FOOD?
Freeze-dried and dehydrated foods are lightweight, easy to store and retain their nutritional value for years. Freeze-dried fruit for example is made from 10 x times its own weight in fresh fruit and is literally bursting with flavour. This means you won't need much, great for sprinkling onto your breakfast cereal.
HOW LONG WILL MY KIT LAST?
Your kit has a 4 year best-before date, making it a worry-free solution for being prepared. While the flavour may weaken after 5 years, the food is still safe to eat. Once opened, reseal the kit and use it within 3 days.
DO YOU ADD SUGAR?
Our kits are sweet enough on their own. The freeze-dried fruit, snacks, grains and vegetables we offer don't need any added sugar – and so, we don't add any! We're all about the natural flavours.
DO I NEED TO REMOVE AN OXYGEN ABSORBER FROM THE BAG?
No, we don’t use oxygen absorber sachets as they aren’t eco-friendly. Instead, we vacuum-pack and flush the bags with nitrogen to remove oxygen.
HOW SOON SHOULD I REHYDRATE A MEAL AFTER OPENING?
It’s best to rehydrate within 3 days of opening the pouch, even if you’ve resealed it.
CAN I USE COLD WATER TO REHYDRATE THE MEALS?
Yes, but it will take about three times longer to rehydrate. While the taste may differ slightly, you’ll still get the same amount of nutrition as with boiling water.
IS YOUR NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION BASED ON DRY OR REHYDRATED MEALS?
The nutritional information provided is based on the rehydrated meal.
